Symonds's new start

Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds will be playing for Surrey in this years Friends Provident Twenty20 competition. For those who don't know him, Symonds burst onto the scene at the age of 20 when he scored 254 not out for Gloucestershire, beating the world record for sixes hit in one innings (16). He is an all-rounder who has scored more than 14,000 runs and taken 242 wickets in 227 First Class Cricket Matches. However, the all rounder has had some controversial moments over the last few years-
  • 2005- Was suspended from the Australia team after turning up at a one-day international still wasted from the night before
  • 2007- Shoulder charged a streaker at the Gabba (Brisbane Cricket Ground)
  • 2008- Sent home from a series against Bangladesh after he ignored a team meeting in favour of a fishing trip
  • 2009- During a radio interview, he called Brendon McCullen 'a piece of shit' and said about teammate Matthew Hayden's cooking 'I just take a side glance at his wife, it helps the meal go down amply well'...was fined $4000 dollars for his comments

The aussie certainly has an interesting history, however, there is no doubt that he is an exceptional cricketer. Surrey's first Twenty20 match is on tuesday (info here http://www.britoval.com/) just make sure you're watching the game...the ball may very well be flying into the stands
