Day 5 Highlights 15/6

Kiwis snatch momentous last gasp point
Being half kiwi, I was pleasently suprised (okay, I was going mental) when New Zealand stole their first ever World Cup point with a goal from Winston Reid in thr 93rd minute. New Zealand, who last played in the World Cup in 1982, matched Slovakia throughout the game but fell behind to a Robert Vittek's 50th minute header before Reid lifted the roof. The result leaves all four sides in the group level, New Zealand face Italy next...some bookies are offering 1/9 on an Italy win!

Winston Reid heads home to earn New Zealand their first ever World Cup point

North Korea risiliant but Brazil too strong
As well as the (only) year England won the World Cup, 1966 was also the last time North Korea qualified for the World Cup however you wouldn't have thought it based on their performance last night. Brazil finally found a goal through an amazing swinging cross/shot by Maicon from a seemingly impossible angle. Elano put Brazil 2 ahead after an exquisite ball from Robinho but Korea were rewarded for their efforts with a goal from Yi Yun-Nam (dont act like you don't know who he is) five minutes from the end. There were reports that the North Korean fans were actors (since North Koreans are not allowed to attend the tournament) and that highlights of the team's matches would not be aired if the team lost...

I do not actually know if he said this

Ronaldo calls for more protection
Portugal star Christiano Ronaldo was left frustrated after his side's draw with Ivory Coast in their first World Cup game. Ronaldo said 'Sometimes it's difficult that the referee doesn't give fouls because he thinks I dived'...you did you cheating winker! He went onto say 'I don't want to speak about the referee. I respect the decision and I want to be focused on helping my team and to do my best'. To be honest Christiano, you can understand how someone could mistake what you just said as 'moaning at the ref' and 'not being focused on helping the team'...you winker!
