The Club No One Likes

Congratulations must go to to Blackpool and Dagenham & Redbridge after their play-off successes however I was not exactly pleased to see Millwall winning their League 1 play off final as my team (Crystal Palace) will be facing them next season.

Millwall fans have gained a reputation over the years for hooliganism and violence before, during and after football matches.

  • January 2002- Millwall fans overturned a clamper's van after he targeted a line of supporters cars. Police described the clamper as either the 'bravest or most stupid man alive'

  • May 2002- 45 police officers and 24 police horses were injured after Millwall lost to Birmingham in the play offs. 900 Millwall fans spent an hour throwing bricks, paving stones and flares at police

  • January 2009- 50 seats were ripped out at the KC stadium when Millwall travelled to Hull. Seats, coins and plastic bottles were then thrown at Hull supporters and police

  • October 2007- As Millwall fans arrived in Leeds on double decker buses, hooligans smashed windows and kicked open doors in a bid to goad hundreds of watching Leeds fans into a confrontation

  • August 2009- A man was stabbed outside upton park as Millwall and West Ham fans clashed after an FA cup tie in large scale riots

  • May 2010- A swindon coach full of fans was attacked by Millwall supporters leaving Wembley (after their team had won the play-off final!)

There are obviously many sensible Millwall supporters who go to matches because of the love they have for their club, however those who just go for the violence can make for dangerous scenes. And I'm not exactly excited about playing a club whose main song is 'no one likes us, we don't care'...not gonna make any friends singing that
