England Squad Announced Tomorrow!

The Club No One Likes

Congratulations must go to to Blackpool and Dagenham & Redbridge after their play-off successes however I was not exactly pleased to see Millwall winning their League 1 play off final as my team (Crystal Palace) will be facing them next season.

Millwall fans have gained a reputation over the years for hooliganism and violence before, during and after football matches.

  • January 2002- Millwall fans overturned a clamper's van after he targeted a line of supporters cars. Police described the clamper as either the 'bravest or most stupid man alive'

  • May 2002- 45 police officers and 24 police horses were injured after Millwall lost to Birmingham in the play offs. 900 Millwall fans spent an hour throwing bricks, paving stones and flares at police

  • January 2009- 50 seats were ripped out at the KC stadium when Millwall travelled to Hull. Seats, coins and plastic bottles were then thrown at Hull supporters and police

  • October 2007- As Millwall fans arrived in Leeds on double decker buses, hooligans smashed windows and kicked open doors in a bid to goad hundreds of watching Leeds fans into a confrontation

  • August 2009- A man was stabbed outside upton park as Millwall and West Ham fans clashed after an FA cup tie in large scale riots

  • May 2010- A swindon coach full of fans was attacked by Millwall supporters leaving Wembley (after their team had won the play-off final!)

There are obviously many sensible Millwall supporters who go to matches because of the love they have for their club, however those who just go for the violence can make for dangerous scenes. And I'm not exactly excited about playing a club whose main song is 'no one likes us, we don't care'...not gonna make any friends singing that

England World Cup Song?

Everyone has at some point sung along to 'Three Lions' by Baddiel & Skinner and The Lightning Seeds (released for the 5th time this year!) and an England anthem is an important (well, maybe not that important) part of the World Cup . However for this year's tournament, Capello has banned an official World Cup song but it has not stopped several artists releasing unofficial tracks.

My personal favourite has to be 'The World Cup's Waiting For You' by the Skatoons (decent ska tune with a catchy chorus)

Okay its not quite john barnes rap :)...

but at least it is not this absolute fucking monstrosity by (everyone's favourite z list celeb)...chico

this actually makes me quite upset :(

Blown it again!

Sloppy England beat Japan

I'm liking the look of England's new strikeforce: Marcus Tanaka and Yuji Nakazawa

I'm only joking...

England scrapped to victory earlier today against Japan after two second half own goals gave them a 2-1 victory in their final warm-up match before the World Cup. After the match, in which Frank Lampard missed his second penalty on the bounce for england, Capello said that he had decided on his final 23 man squad but will not announce it until tuesday.
From looking at the 30 man squad, i would like to see on the plane:
Goalkeepers: Green, Hart, James
(Would like Hart to start, think Green will)
Defenders: Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Johnson, King, Upson, Baines, Charrager
(Warnock and Dawson miss out)
Midfielders: Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, Lennon, Milner, Walcott, Johnson, Barry
(Parker, Carrick (goes if Barry is injured), Huddlestone and SWP miss out)
Strikers: Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, Bent
(Hesky misses out)
Did anyone see the typo which the Austrian Stadium made when listing the England team on the electronic screen? Apparently 'D Brent' played up front for the first half

Tweedle dee and Tweedle dum

The Formula 1 race in Turkey took an unexpected turn today as teammates Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel took each other out. Before the race, the pair were 1st and 2nd in the Drivers World Championship and on the 40th lap were comfortably leading the race. However, during an overtaking move by Vettel, he collided with his Red Bull teammate and as a result had to retire from the race (Webber dropped to 3rd).

Watch it here http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8713653.stm

Lewis Hamilton claimed Victory and Jenson Button took 2nd place resulting in a McClaren '1-2'. How I would like to be a fly on the wall in the Red Bull garages tomorrow...

What were they thinking of crouchy?

Murray and Nadal Progress

I can't say I've been watching Roland Garros (the french, clay court, grand slam) with any real enthusiam as the early rounds seem fairly boring; the main sponser has the rather annoying/unfortunate name 'BNP Paribas' and everyone is waiting for the inevitable Murray vs Federer final.

Nadal is favourite for the tournament having won it 4 times in the last 5 years (missed out last year due to injury) and is looking in good form with a comfortable 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 win over Lleyton Hewitt.

Murray has been moving through the rounds with less ease after an unconvincing 5-set win against Richard Gasquet in the second round and in order to win his first grand slam will need to beat Berdych, Tsonga, Federer and Nadal.

Hey, at least if he wins I might forgive him for this:
